Wait, What?

Thing 6: Digg and Reddit

So what am I on now? Number 6? Really? Awesome. I would have done this one sooner, but it didn't interest me much, and it's been a hell of a week.

I guess I just don't get this whole Digg/StumbleUpon/Reddit thing. Okay, So I understand that it reccomends articles and websites to others, but I'm very... strange, when it comes to things I read online. Mostly what I'm finding on these sites are things that don't appeal to me. I don't really care that 129 other people find an article about the Lakers and the Spurs interesting. And I really don't see how it would help me if I'm doing research. There are enough distractions out there. I suppose I'll look into this later in my schooling or career, but for right now, I just don't get it.

Can you say “Please welcome Liz Lemooooon!”?

Thing 5: Beyond MyFaceSpaceBooking

Updating my status is something I do 10 times a day on Facebook. Even if I'm not around a computer, I can update from my cell phone. That makes me so happy. Usually, my updates don't make any sense. Most of the time they are quotes from 30 Rock, only to make things a little more... interesting. I'm not one to tell exactly what I'm doing at any particular time, like how some people say "Liz Lemon is taking the subway to the gym, then running on a treadmill for 35 minutes, taking a shower, then getting back on the subway and then stopping at Subway to get a sandwich, then going home to watch The Hills on Tivo." Seriously, I've seen statuses like that. As for using status updates for evil... oh, I've been there. Using it for school? I'm not really sure how that would work...

I joined Twitter and Plurk, but seeing as no one I know uses either of them, it's not as fun. Whats the point of using something if no one you know uses it?

Facebook Is The Sex

Thing 4: Social Media

Ahh, Facebook, how I love thee. I think I'm logged into Facebook 18 hours a day. I have a few people I've met at AI on my friends list. It's kinda cool that I can keep up with them, see how school is for them and stuff. I also have a lot of friends from high school, as well as a few from elementary school. I'm surprised that people even remember me from that far back!

I also have a MySpace page, but it's more personal than anything. I log in a few times a day, but I don't use it nearly as much as Facebook. I keep my page private, just so if future employers take a look at it they can't see how crazy I actually am.

I joined LinkedIn... Maybe it's not the right time in my life for it to be really useful, but I can see how it'll be good in the future. Once I build up a portfolio and learn more about the biz, I'll use it much more often. I joined Plaxo a few years ago, but I don't think I've ever actually used it.

For right now, I'm just going to stick to Facebook (add me!)

Another Day, Another Thing

Thing 3: Online Communication

When I saw the title of this, the first thing that popped into my head was 'Yay! Chatting on AIM! Too easy!'. Then I read it was about email.... even easier. I've had an email address since 1996. I don't have that same address anymore, since it was hacked by an ex in 1998, but I do have a few email addresses floating around out there.

When I first got to AI I started looking around OLS. Not too difficult to use. I like having a school email, but I knew I wouldn't check it often, so I immediately forwarded it to my personal email address. Smart kid, I am. I like OLS. It's how I knew that I passed my first two classes here at AI. It's a good tool to use while in school. I can make a website if I wanted to... not that I really want to since my making website days are behind me, but it's nice to have the option.

RSS? Hmm...

Thing 2: Set up an RSS account and add feeds

I have a lot of free time on my hands. Going through all my daily internet stops helps me by giving me something to do instead of sleeping 21 hours a day. So I'm not really sure I like RSS feeds. While it's nice to have everything all in one place, it doesn't take as much time as usual, leaving me more time to do absolutely nothing.

I logged into my Google account and tried the Google Reader. I added a few of my favorite websites: The Frisky, I Can Has Cheezburger, Pregnant Cornbread, and since I am in desperate need for a job, Minneapolis CraigsList hospitality jobs.

While I'm sure this helps people who are really busy, for me it just gives me more time to stare at the walls in my apartment. And I have to tell you, with all that extra time on my hands, I've noticed that I did a terrible job painting my living room. So, RSS... not for me.

One down, 15 to go!

Thing 1. Setting Up Your Blog

So this is my first entry for the AI 16 Things... thing. I've had blogs before, but this is a school blog, so no funny business! Okay, maybe a little...

I suppose maybe just a quick bit about me... I'm Erin, this is technically my 2nd quarter at AI, and I like taking pictures. Other than that, there isn't much to know about me.
